TAG Heuer - Aquaracer 'Bamford' Limited Edition

WHAT WE BEGRUDGINGLY ADMIT:

George Bamford of Bamford Watch Department, son of Billionaire Lord Anthony Bamford, is to use the most popular parlance of today a 'Nepo Baby'. His earliest watch related memory is receiving a Breitling Navitimer for Christmas at the age of 12 and pulling it completely to pieces, a story that few can relate to and i'm sure even fewer will find endearing. This obsession with deconstructing things that most spend their lives striving to acquire lead to his nascent watch customisation company that took mainly Rolex watches, blackened them and added his name to the dial. This early work was not well received by the watch industry at large who perceived his 'modifcations' as about as creative as the jewellers who would 'ice out' watches with diamonds.

In 2017, our struggling artist caught a break when Jean-Claude Biver of LVMH legitimised Georges work by introducing Bamford customisation to iconic watch models like the Zenith El Primero and Tag Heuer Monaco. A string of collaborations between Bamford and LVMH would ensue with this Aquaracer being an example.

I have to admit that George Bamford has done quite a fine job here. The design is refined and works well to seperate this limited edition from the regular Aquaracer Model. The bright orange really stands out against the darker hue of the grade 2 titanium case and the concentric ring effect to the dial adds a level of depth and interest. The build quality is exactly what you'd expect from Tag Heuer, which is to say, very good and the size at 43mm is made even more wearable through the titanium case and bracelet. Overall the watch looks great and I hope demonstrates that Bamfords design eye is being honed through his work with LVMH.
