WHAT WE LOVE:
The Seiko 6139-7100 has two nicknames, both earned. The "Helmet" describes the case — a conical, angular form with a dramatically bevelled crystal and a bezel that overhangs the case sides, creating the profile of a racing or motorcycle helmet from certain angles.
The dial layout is immediately recognisable: a single sub-register at 6 o'clock (running seconds and chronograph minute counter on the same disc, one gold pointer and one teal marker), a yellow chronograph sweep hand visible across the dial, a steeply set tachymeter chapter ring at the outer edge, and the day/date at 3 o'clock with its characteristic 1970s typography. The original bracelet is included — the angular, linked steel bracelet that is specific to this generation of Seiko chronograph and impossible to replicate.
WHAT'S INSIDE:
The 6139-7100 is powered by Seiko Calibre 6139B — a 17-jewel automatic chronograph with column wheel and vertical clutch, beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour with automatic winding (non-hand-wind). The single sub-register at 6 o'clock provides both running seconds and 30-minute elapsed time on a single disc with two differently coloured pointers. Fully serviced, new gaskets — July 2026.
