WHAT WE LOVE:
Since 2009, Halios has built one of the most fiercely loyal followings in the microbrand world, and the Seaforth II is the watch that turned that following from a cult into a phenomenon. When it launched in 2018, the Series II sold out almost immediately. Finding one on the secondary market is getting difficult, and prices reflect it.
The Abyss Blue dial in most lighting conditions it reads as an extraordinarily deep, almost black/navy. Move the wrist, catch a different angle of light, and it opens up into a rich, saturated midnight blue that photographs cannot fully capture. It is one of the more special dial colours available in this segment of watchmaking at any price, and it gives the Seaforth II a chameleonic quality.
The case is the other half of what makes the Seaforth worth seeking out. At 40mm with a 46.5mm lug-to-lug, it is a compact watch by modern standards, and the case finishing reflects a level of care that exceeds its price bracket: brushed surfaces with polished chamfered lug bevels that catch light in a manner typically associated with watches costing significantly more. The double-domed sapphire crystal — with inner anti-reflective coating — sits above the dial with a vintage character reminiscent of the acrylic domes of 1960s dive watches, while providing full sapphire scratch resistance. On the vintage-style brown leather strap shown, the watch reads as relaxed and characterful — a different personality entirely from the black rubber it ships with, and arguably the better one for daily wear.
WHAT'S INSIDE:
The Seaforth II is powered by the ETA Calibre 2824-2 — a 25-jewel Swiss automatic movement beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a power reserve of 38-40 hours.
