The silver-white textured dial, inspired by the bark of white birch trees found near the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi in northern Japan, is nothing short of breathtaking. It’s dynamic in changing light, creating a sense of motion and depth. Paired with crisp black markers, razor-sharp hands, and Grand Seiko’s signature Zaratsu-polished surfaces, the SLGH005 is as much sculpture as it is timepiece.
The 40mm stainless steel case — part of the new Evolution 9 style — features wider lugs, a lower centre of gravity, and sharp geometric facets that lend it a modern, architectural stance. It wears comfortably while offering substantial wrist presence.
WHAT'S INSIDE:
At the heart of the White Birch is the Grand Seiko Caliber 9SA5, a next-generation automatic movement that introduced the brand’s Dual Impulse Escapement, 80-hour power reserve, and free-sprung balance. Operating at 36,000 vibrations per hour (Hi-Beat 5Hz), the movement combines high precision with outstanding efficiency — visible through the exhibition caseback, complete with striping and beautifully chamfered bridges.
