The marine timepieces crafted by English horologist John Harrison during the 18th century are acknowledged as the pioneering 'observation watches,' also referred to as 'B watches.' These watches marked a significant breakthrough in the realm of maritime navigation. Over time, observation watches gained prominence, particularly within the military for purposes such as pinpointing location, aiding in navigation, synchronising operations, and maintaining strict time schedules.

The SINN 856 B-Uhr embodies this legacy, infusing the distinct, classic appearance of a B-Uhr into a manageable 40 mm size. In keeping with the classic B-watch design, the 856 B-watch features a recessed hour hand that aligns with an inner hour ring, while the prominent minute hand sweeps across an external minute track. This minute hand, along with the numerals, indices, and a triangular arrow as the main marker, are accentuated with an ivory-colored coating. The design of the hour and minute hands on the black dial adheres to historical norms, emphasising the minute as the more crucial time unit that needed to be quickly and accurately read.
