WHAT WE LOVE:
In 2015 Tudor did something it had never done before, it released a watch with a movement made by themselves. This was a marked departure from their long-held practice of using generic movements to more effectively demonstrate their difference from their Rolex counterparts.
Every Tudor Submariner you'll find uses an ETA base calibre, the beloved Tudor Black Bay was introduced with an ETA movement as a clear nod to this heritage. This was not to last however, Tudor now had a loftier vision for itself, no longer content with being the 'Poor Mans Rolex' the brand saw its future rather in being the 'Young Mans Rolex'. The introduction of an in-house calibre was lauded by enthusiasts who praised the vision of Tudor and this has continued.
There is a part of watch collecting however, that stokes the contrarian side of people. This has led to a recent embracement by the community of the 'authentic' Tudor, which stayed true to its roots of using generic movements. These ETA Black Bay models are recognizable through the 'Smiley' line of text on the dial, and the Rose logo. These models are becoming more scarce and more sought after.
