WHAT WE LOVE:
Tissot has been the Official Timekeeper of FIFA and various international football federations across multiple periods, and the PR50 Sport Chronograph Football Special Edition is the watch that came out of that relationship in the 1990s.
The green dial is the defining detail. Tissot produced the standard J378/478 in white and black; the "-S" Sport Special Edition with the green dial was produced specifically to reference the football pitch, and the effect is immediate and characterful. Against a stainless steel case and tachymeter bezel, the green reads as energetic rather than garish. The red central chronograph seconds hand cuts across the green background with excellent contrast and gives the watch a visual energy that the white and black dial variants never quite match.
The three-register layout — subsidiary counters at 2, 6, and 10 o'clock — gives the dial a busy, purposeful architecture that suits the football timing context. At 38mm the PR50 sits closer to a contemporary 40mm reference than its stated diameter suggests, thanks to a case profile with moderate bezel width and a well-proportioned dial.
WHAT'S INSIDE:
The J378/478-S is powered by a Swiss quartz chronograph movement — accurate, reliable, and requiring nothing beyond periodic battery replacement to continue performing exactly as it did when it left the factory in the 1990s. The tachymeter scale bezel allows speed calculations against the chronograph, extending the watch's utility beyond simple elapsed timing.
