The success of the Monaco can be attributed primarily to two factors: its association with Steve McQueen and its distinctive square shape. While other factors such as the innovative Calibre 11 certainly contribute, it's the watch's iconic design and its connection to a legendary figure that have ensured its enduring popularity over the decades. The latest Gulf Special Edition, with its vibrant stripes, amplifies both these elements to new heights.

WHAT'S INSIDE:

I'm thrilled that TAG Heuer chose the legendary Calibre 11 for this edition. It's not only the quintessential movement for the Monaco but also ranks among the greatest chronographs ever made (read more to understand why). While the unconventional crown placement might be off-putting for some — I had to set and wind it upside down — it's an integral part of the Monaco's distinctive character. In terms of finishing, it aligns with TAG Heuer's other offerings: featuring machine striping and perlage that are attractive, if not exceptional. Fortunately, its heritage and performance more than compensate for any minor shortcomings.
