WHAT WE LOVE:
The Seiko 6139-6012 'Bruce Lee' is an iconic vintage chronograph that holds a special place in horological history. As part of the Seiko 6139 series, one of the world’s first automatic chronographs released in 1969, this timepiece was revolutionary for its era. It gained legendary status due to its association with martial arts icon Bruce Lee, who was frequently seen wearing this model, adding to its mystique and desirability among collectors.
Encased in a 39mm stainless steel case, the 6139-6012 features a distinctive blue dial, giving it a striking and elegant appearance. The bold applied indices and contrasting black inner tachymeter ring enhance its readability, while the day-date complication at 3 o’clock, often found in English and Kanji, adds a practical touch. A central chronograph seconds hand and a 30-minute counter at 6 o’clock provide precise timing functionality, staying true to the watch’s purpose as a tool for measuring elapsed time.
WHAT'S INSIDE:
At its core, the watch is powered by the Seiko Caliber 6139, a column-wheel automatic chronograph movement, which was groundbreaking in its day. Unlike traditional manual-wind chronographs, the 6139 series introduced fully automatic operation, cementing Seiko’s place as a leader in watchmaking innovation. The single-pusher chronograph system allows for start, stop, and reset functions using just one button, a unique feature that distinguishes it from other chronographs of its time.
