WHAT WE LOVE:
A true celebration of heritage, precision, and performance, the Seiko Prospex Speedtimer SSC955 commemorates a powerful return, both for Seiko and for Tokyo, as the World Athletics Championships come home in 2025 after 34 years. With a legacy of timing the world’s most prestigious track and field events since 1987, Seiko honours this historic moment with a timepiece that captures both the spirit of athletic excellence and the cultural richness of its founding city.
The watch’s striking dial is bathed in a regal shade of Edo purple, a hue deeply rooted in Japanese tradition and chosen as the official colour of the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25. This rich, elegant tone reflects not only Seiko’s cultural homage to Tokyo’s past as Edo but also the vibrant energy of a global athletic event hosted in the city once again.
Crafted in stainless steel, the watch offers a refined case profile with a 39mm diameter, a lug-to-lug distance of 45.5mm, and a comfortable thickness of 13.3mm. The curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the inner surface ensures exceptional clarity and a premium feel, while LumiBrite on the hands and indexes offers excellent visibility in low light. The three-fold clasp with push-button release provides a secure and seamless wearing experience, and the engraved case back is adorned with the official World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25 emblem, as well as a unique serial number identifying it as one of only 6,000 pieces produced.
Designed for the rigors of both sport and everyday wear, this limited edition is water-resistant to 10 bar and resists magnetic interference up to 4,800 A/m. A tachymeter scale enhances its chronograph functionality, further connecting the watch to its timekeeping roots in the world of athletics. This is more than a watch, it is a piece of living history, created with passion, precision, and purpose.
WHAT'S INSIDE:
At the heart of the Speedtimer SSC955 is Seiko’s reliable and precise V192 solar movement. With a tolerance of ±15 seconds per month and a power reserve of approximately six months when fully charged, this movement supports a full chronograph function capable of measuring up to 60 minutes in 1/5 second increments. Additional functions include a date display, 24-hour sub dial, small seconds, a power reserve indicator, and an overcharge prevention mechanism, ensuring dependable performance in all conditions.
