WHAT WE LOVE:
The Seiko “Black Monster” 7S26-0350, part of the original Monster series, has become a cult favourite in the world of dive watches — and for good reason. Released in the early 2000s and continuing into the 2010s, this model offered robust specs, unapologetic design, and unbeatable value at the time of release. Even today, it stands out as one of the most recognisable divers Seiko has ever made.
Its bold 42mm stainless steel case features a toothy unidirectional bezel, deeply notched for easy grip, giving the watch its “Monster” nickname. The matte black dial is all function — with large shark-tooth-style hour markers filled with Seiko’s legendary LumiBrite, oversized hands, and a day-date display at 3 o’clock. The deep-set dial and raised chapter ring add an extra sense of depth.
Despite the aggressive aesthetic, the Black Monster wears comfortably on the wrist, thanks to its short lugs and balanced proportions. It’s a proper tool watch — built to be worn, used, and appreciated.
WHAT’S INSIDE:
Inside beats the reliable Seiko Caliber 7S26, a 21-jewel automatic movement known for its durability. While it lacks hacking or hand-winding, it’s low-maintenance and built to last. The movement is housed behind a solid, screw-down caseback, part of the ISO-rated 200-meter water resistance that made the Monster a favourite among divers and daily wearers alike.
This watch also comes with a spare rubber strap.
