Seiko - 2004 'Nissan Cube x The Conran Shop' JDM Special Edition

WHAT WE LOVE:

I love that this watch was created. Where so many watches these days are made to go along with Ferrari, Mercedes Benz, Bentley, or Aston Martin to burnish their reputations as luxury products, this model from Seiko in collaboration with Conran and Nissan celebrates one of the 'uncoolest' cars of all time.

Between 1998 and 2019 Nissan made a model called the Cube, its design was divisive with the public, to say the least, but there were so many design elements in the car that made you realise the designers were having a bit of fun. For instance, while the car was Cube shaped on the outside, nearly everything inside the car was circular, which is a pattern matched in the design of this watch. Inexplicably there was a circular shag rug placed in the centre of the dashboard, which owners have affectionately dubbed the 'cube pubes'.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say, and someone at Seiko saw the beauty in the humble Nissan cube and created this watch.
