Where Swiss manufacturers were producing quartz chronographs with 1/5th or 1/10th second resolution, Seiko's 7T52 doubled the precision of the best available quartz chronograph resolution at the time, displaying it across three analogue sub-registers with red accent hands. In the JDM market this reference was marketed under the "Speedmaster" name — the same designation Seiko had used for their motorsport chronograph line since the 1960s — reflecting the tachymeter-equipped, high-precision timing brief the watch was designed to fulfil.
