WHAT WE LOVE:

The "Pogue" nickname attached to the 7A28-7030 derives from the legendary 6139 automatic chronograph that Colonel William Pogue wore on Skylab 4 in 1973 — the first automatic chronograph worn in space. The 7A28 borrows that watch's colour palette (gold dial, blue and red Pepsi bezel, steel bracelet) but contains something arguably more significant: the world's first analogue quartz chronograph movement. In 1982, when quartz meant LCD displays and digital readouts, Seiko built a quartz chronograph with three analogue sub-registers, sweep hands, and a movement with no plastic components — an entirely metal calibre that can be regulated and fully serviced. The horological achievement is extraordinary: a 1/10th-second analogue quartz chronograph displayed on an analogue dial, in the first year of that technology's production.

The gold dial on this example has developed a warm, honey-amber oxidation around the edges — visible in the photo — that collectors specifically seek on the 7A28-7030 as a marker of originality and age. The Pepsi bezel has been swapped on this example and is accompanied by an additional original bezel, gaskets have been replaced, and the original steel bracelet is included. The "JAPAN 7A28 — 7030S" text visible at the lower dial confirms the correct reference, and the angular cushion case at 40.5mm has the commanding wrist presence this watch is known for.

WHAT’S INSIDE:

The 7A28-7030 is powered by the Seiko Calibre 7A28 — the world's first analogue quartz chronograph movement, a 15-jewel all-metal calibre with no plastic components, capable of full regulation and component-level servicing.
