Rolex - 1979 Day-Date Arabic Dial 18038

WHAT WE LOVE:

The Ref. 18038 is the first Day-Date to carry the quickset date function, introduced via the Calibre 3055 in 1978. Where the earlier reference 1803 required full crown manipulation to advance the date, the 3055's quickset mechanism allows the date to be corrected by pulling the crown to an intermediate position — a practical improvement that made daily correction significantly less effortful. The Arabic numeral dial variant is among the most sporty Day-Date dial configurations: the large, bold Arabic numerals in 18k yellow gold against the champagne dial surface reads with directness, and the numerals give the Day-Date a more sporty character than the standard version. The 18k yellow gold fluted bezel, and the day display at 12 o'clock complete the watch's specification. A sapphire crystal was fitted to the 18038, replacing the acrylic of earlier references.
