WHAT WE LOVE:
Rado has been working with high-tech ceramic since the 1980s — longer than virtually any other watch manufacturer — and the Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Diver is the result of four decades of accumulated expertise in what remains the most demanding material in watch case production. The matte black high-tech ceramic monocoque case of the R32129152 is machined from sintered zirconium oxide in a process that involves grinding a material harder than most cutting tools with diamond-tipped tooling, then polishing selected surfaces to achieve the contrast between matte and gloss visible on this watch's bezel and bracelet.
Against the all-black composition — case, bracelet, dial, bezel — the polished stainless steel bezel ring creates the watch's only metallic accent, and the Super-LumiNova-charged hands and markers provide the legibility that ISO 6425 certification demands. The Captain Cook name connects to Rado's 1960s dive watch heritage, and the current generation applies that history with considerably more technical ambition than the originals could manage. The red date disc at 3 o'clock is the single warm accent in an otherwise monochromatic composition — and it is exactly right.
