WHAT WE LOVE:
The Porsche Design Chronograph by Orfina Ref. 7176 is a masterpiece of purposeful design, conceived by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the creative mind behind the iconic Porsche 911. Released in the 1970s, this model represents the birth of a new design philosophy that merged the precision of engineering with the purity of minimalism, a philosophy that continues to define Porsche Design today.
Our vintage example, from 1980s features a dark grey steel case and integrated bracelet, creating a cohesive, sculptural presence on the wrist. The dial, finished in matte black, is a study in restrained sophistication. Its three chronograph registers blend seamlessly with the dial’s surface, maintaining the monochromatic harmony that gives the watch its stealthy allure. At three o’clock, the Porsche Design logo sits just above the neatly framed day and date display, offering a subtle reminder of its automotive lineage. The vivid orange central chronograph seconds hand injects a flash of energy into the dial, recalling the dashboards of classic Porsche sports cars.
Every line, finish, and proportion of this watch is guided by function yet elevated by a designer’s eye. The result is a timepiece that feels both technical and elegant, understated yet full of presence, a perfect embodiment of Porsche Design’s pioneering spirit.
WHAT’S INSIDE:
Inside beats the legendary Valjoux 7750, a workhorse automatic chronograph movement introduced around the same time, providing excellent functionality and reliability. Known for its robustness, 12 hour totaliser functionality, and signature cam-lever chronograph actuation.
