WHAT WE LOVE:
The Speedmaster Reduced occupies a very specific and now increasingly appreciated position in the Speedmaster family — the automatic version of the Moonwatch, sharing the same case silhouette, the same black aluminium tachymeter bezel, and the same matte black dial layout as the hand-wound Professional, but powered by an automatic rotor and producing a watch that wears closer to 38mm than the Professional's 42mm. For buyers who want the Speedmaster aesthetic and dial character in a genuinely comfortable, everyday size, the Reduced is the answer the modern catalogue no longer offers.
The particular draw of this example is the dial. The indices on this watch have developed a warm cream patina — the natural result of decades of tritium lume degrading under ambient light and temperature variation. The effect is immediately visible in the photo: where new Speedmasters have cool white indices, these glow a warm, honeyed cream tone that adds an organic depth to the black dial that no new watch can replicate. Under UV the hour markers and hands glow but die once UV is turned off indicating original tritium. This is a good-looking Speedmaster with its original bracelet in tact as well.
