WHAT WE LOVE:
Twenty-five years after Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the Moon wearing Omega Speedmaster Professionals, Omega produced a small series of anniversary editions to mark the occasion. The ref. 3592.50.00 — known among collectors as the "De Luxe" Apollo XI — is the most technically distinguished of those editions, and at just 999 pieces produced exclusively for the Italian market, one of the rarest Speedmaster commemoratives of the entire Apollo anniversary series.
What separates the 3592.50.00 from the other Apollo XI 25th anniversary references produced in 1994 is the caseback. The standard Moonwatch of this era carries a solid caseback — no window, no view of the movement, consistent with the original NASA specification. The De Luxe breaks with that tradition: a sapphire exhibition caseback is fitted in place of the solid cover, engraved with "APOLLO XI" and "XXV" around the perimeter — the roman numeral XXV confirming the twenty-fifth anniversary — allowing direct view of the Calibre 861 movement beneath.
WHAT’S INSIDE:
The 3592.50.00 is powered by the Omega Calibre 861 — the same manual-wind column-wheel chronograph movement that accompanied the Apollo 11 crew to the Moon in 1969. The 861 in this reference is the rhodium-plated version — 18 jewels, 21,600 vibrations per hour, 48-hour power reserve.
