WHAT WE LOVE:
This Omega Seamaster 30 Cal. 286 from 1963 is a beautiful example of mid-century Omega — a period when the brand was producing some of its most timeless, manually wound dress watches. With clean lines, enduring proportions, and a reliable hand-wound movement, this reference embodies the quiet elegance of 1960s watchmaking.
The 35mm stainless steel case is slim and well-balanced, with long, sculpted lugs that wear beautifully on the wrist. The dial is minimal and restrained, featuring applied baton indices, and Omega’s vintage logo at 12 o’clock. Thin pencil hands and a central sweep seconds hand complete the layout, delivering clear, balanced symmetry without distraction.
The caseback is engraved with the Seamaster hippocampus medallion, still crisp on well-preserved examples — a mark of this watch’s durability and water resistance in its day.
WHAT’S INSIDE:
At its heart is the Omega Caliber 286, a robust manual-wind movement from the brand’s famed 30mm series. Beating at 18,000 vibrations per hour, this 17-jewel movement is celebrated for its reliability, simplicity, and ease of service. It delivers smooth winding, hacking seconds, and a practical power reserve of approximately 42 hours.
