WHAT WE LOVE:

Longines has been drawing on its own archives since the brand began archiving systematically in 1832, and the Heritage 1945 is one of the most faithful and most appealing of those archive revivals. The copper dial is the detail that makes the L2.813.4.66.0 immediately identifiable and compelling. It is a brushed, slightly reddish-brown surface with a genuine metallic quality, animated by the alternating Arabic numerals and silvered dot hour markers. The blued steel leaf-shaped hands move across this surface with the period-correct elegance that characterised Longines' best 1940s dress watches, and the small seconds subdial at 6 o'clock adds a classical complication detail entirely in keeping with the watch's archival origin.

At 40mm the Heritage 1945 sits at a size that the original watch never occupied — the 1940s reference was considerably smaller, built for the wrist sizes of the era. But the design proportions and the dial architecture remain genuinely faithful to the original, and on the beige calfskin leather strap with its pin buckle, the overall composition reads as precisely and specifically 1945 in spirit without requiring any knowledge of that specific history to appreciate it.
