WHAT WE LOVE:
The Grand Seiko Calibre 9F is one of the most significant achievements in the history of quartz watchmaking — and it has been almost completely overlooked by the watch press because it does not fit neatly into any of the categories that generate column inches. It is not a mechanical movement, so mechanical watch journalists ignore it. It is not a consumer quartz, so consumer electronics journalists ignore it. But Calibre 9F achieves ±10 seconds per year accuracy — not ±15 seconds per month as most Swiss and Japanese quartz movements deliver, but ±10 seconds per year.
The SBGX265 delivers all of that in a 37mm stainless steel case with a blue sunray dial that catches directional light with the same Zaratsu-polished depth that Grand Seiko's mechanical dials show. The case and bracelet finishing apply exactly the same standards as Grand Seiko's Spring Drive and mechanical pieces — the dial is not simpler, the markers are not cheaper, the Zaratsu polishing on the case is not less precise.
WHAT'S INSIDE:
The SBGX265 is powered by Grand Seiko Calibre 9F62 — a thermocompensated Super High Accuracy quartz movement achieving ±10 seconds per year, with instantaneous date change (0.3-second mechanism), 3-year battery life, and 100-metre magnetic resistance. New battery, pressure test, gaskets — August 2026.
