WHAT WE LOVE:

Formex has spent twenty-five years building one of the most technically coherent and consistently underrated catalogues in Swiss independent watchmaking — a brand that has delivered patented case suspension systems, in-house complications, and full-ceramic construction at price points that leave the established Swiss hierarchy looking complacent. The Essence Ceramica Skeleton COSC "Stradale" is the watch they chose to mark that anniversary, and it is a genuinely remarkable object for its price.

The full zirconium oxide ceramic case and bracelet is the engineering statement. Ceramic watch cases are common at the high end of the market; full-ceramic bracelets are rare at any price; and a full-ceramic bracelet with a micro-adjustable ceramic clasp — the world's first — is something that, at the time of this watch's release, existed nowhere else. Formex achieves this through their close association with Dexel, a leading ceramic watchmaking component specialist owned by the same family and drawing on over forty years of ceramic finishing expertise. The case and bracelet surfaces are finished in a combination of vertical brushing and diamond-polished bevels — a multi-stage process requiring specialised diamond tooling and considerable skill, applied to a material that cannot be reworked if the finish goes wrong.

The "Stradale" designation references road-going performance — the everyday version against the "GT" track-focused variant — and this Stradale configuration is the most directly wearable of the four editions: a skeletonised dial by Swiss dial specialist Cadranor in gun-metal finished indices with diamond-cut bevels against the open view of the movement beneath. The patented Formex Case Suspension System — a titanium-container inner case that isolates the movement from the ceramic outer case — absorbs shocks and provides exceptional wearing comfort, and at 41mm × 11.2mm × 46.2mm lug-to-lug, the watch sits closer and flatter to the wrist than its ceramic construction might suggest.

WHAT’S INSIDE:

The 210.32.42.20.03.001 is powered by Omega's Calibre 8800 — a 39-jewel Co-Axial Master Chronometer movement certified by METAS to resist magnetic fields exceeding 15,000 gauss, achieved through the Si14 silicon balance spring and non-ferromagnetic movement components.
