WHAT WE LOVE:
Favre-Leuba is one of the oldest watch brands in continuous existence — founded in 1737 in Le Locle, it has a legitimate claim to watchmaking heritage that most contemporary brands cannot match. After a period of quiet following a change in ownership, the brand was acquired by Titan Company Limited in 2011 and relaunched with a focus on its most distinctive archival designs. The Raider Harpoon is the most radical result of that process — a watch that takes the brand's 1960s dive watch DNA and reinterprets it as something entirely, defiantly its own.
The first thing to resolve is how the Harpoon tells the time — there is a single central hand. That hand is the minute hand: it sweeps around the dial in the normal manner, indicating elapsed minutes against the outer white ring with its rotating hour disc below. As the minute hand moves, the hour disc beneath rotates to bring the current hour into view behind the hand's axis. At any given moment, the minute hand simultaneously points to the current minute and, by reference to the disc below it, the current hour. The running seconds indicator at the centre — a small disc that rotates continuously — confirms the movement is alive.
The case that houses this mechanism is immediately distinctive: a barrel-shaped 46mm stainless steel form with a distinctive tetradecagonal (fourteen-sided) bezel, two crowns at the right-hand side of the case, and a dual-colour blue and black unidirectional bezel. The helium escape valve and 500-metre depth rating confirm this as a genuine professional tool watch rather than an aesthetic exercise.

The Raider Harpoon is powered by the FL 301 — a Favre-Leuba designation for the Sellita SW200-1 base with Favre-Leuba's own proprietary module that drives the rotating hour disc complication. This watch also has the addition of a new branded rubber strap & buckle.
