Cousteau's divers chose the orange-dialled Doxa Sub for its unprecedented readability at depth; the black Sharkhunter was the alternative for those who preferred a less visible dial configuration.
The Sub 200 Sharkhunter reinterprets this heritage at a more accessible size and price point than the Sub 300, referencing the early 1960s Doxa dive watches with twisted-lug cases that preceded the iconic tonneau Sub 300 form. The 42mm case carries Doxa's characteristic DNA — the knurled bezel, the large luminous applied stick markers, the pronounced case thickness that creates the watch's distinctive visual weight — in a form that references the brand's origins rather than its most famous expression. The domed crystal, with its double-curved sapphire surface and anti-reflective coating that recreates the optical character of the original acrylic, is one of the defining details: slightly magnifying, with the refractive quality of vintage dome crystals that flat modern sapphires cannot approach.
