WHAT WE LOVE:

In 1978, Seiko introduced the world's first professional quartz diver with the Golden Tuna ref. 7549 — a watch whose combination of battery-powered quartz accuracy and genuine professional diving capability was entirely new. Citizen's answer was the Crystron Diver: a JDM-only professional quartz dive watch of almost identical intent, produced from approximately 1978 to 1981, that has since become one of the rarest and most sought-after items in vintage Japanese watch collecting precisely because so few were produced and even fewer have survived in good condition.

The "Crystron" designation identifies this as part of Citizen's higher-end electronic/quartz line of the late 1970s — watches that sat above the standard Citizen production in specification, price, and ambition. The CQ (Crystron Quartz) designation on the dial confirms the hierarchy. At 41-42mm the case is large for its era, with a stainless steel monocoque construction, screw-in caseback, unidirectional rotating bezel with its distinctive knurled pattern of 60 clicks, and a dial layout that is immediately legible at any depth or angle.
