WHAT WE LOVE:
Morgan Motor Company has been building cars in Malvern Link, Worcestershire, since 1909. Their 3 Wheeler — a single rear-wheeled, V-twin-powered, open-cockpit machine that was their very first car — has never stopped being produced, and has never stopped being entirely, brilliantly unconventional. When Christopher Ward approached Morgan, it was not to licence a logo: it was to create a watch that could carry the same engineering integrity and the same refusal to follow convention that defines the car itself.
The result is built around the matte black DLC-coated Grand Malvern case — sandblasted to a texture that references the aviation-inspired dashboard aesthetic of the 3 Wheeler's cockpit. The dial is equally minimal: matte black, with Old-Radium Super-LumiNova on the hands and indices that replicates the warm, creamy glow of aged radium lume without the radioactivity. In low light, the watch glows with a distinctly vintage warmth that is entirely at odds with its thoroughly modern construction.
Through the exhibition sapphire caseback, the most compelling detail of the entire watch becomes visible: the bespoke skeletonised bridge of the SH21 movement, designed specifically for this collaboration to echo the V-twin layout of the 3 Wheeler's engine. It is a detail that only the wearer and those who know to look for it will ever see — which is exactly the kind of detail that defines a watch made with genuine intention.
WHAT'S INSIDE:
The M01-40HSS1-SD0K0-TC is powered by Christopher Ward's in-house Calibre SH21 — a hand-wound movement developed by CW in collaboration with the Swiss movement specialist Synergies Horlogères and bearing COSC chronometer certification.
