WHAT WE LOVE:
The Alpine Eagle is Karl-Friedrich Scheufele's personal reinterpretation of the St. Moritz — the first watch he ever designed, in 1980, drawing directly on his passion for the Alps and the eagle that defines the region's wildlife. Where the St. Moritz was the watch that launched Chopard's entry into the integrated-bracelet luxury sport category, the Alpine Eagle is its fully considered successor: a watch built around a proprietary alloy, a manufacture-developed COSC movement, and a design identity that connects authentically to its source rather than simply referencing it.
The defining material of the 298600-3002 is Lucent Steel A223 — a stainless steel alloy that Chopard spent four years developing, achieving 50% greater abrasion resistance than conventional 316L steel at a Vickers hardness value of 223. The result is a case and bracelet that maintains its surface finish longer than standard stainless steel, and that polishes to a distinctly higher reflectivity than conventional steel — visible in the luminous quality of the Alpine Eagle's finished surfaces. The grey sunburst dial, the eight flat-headed screws on the bezel referencing the Alpine Eagle's talons, the crown decorated with the North Star emblem, and the sapphire exhibition caseback revealing the Chopard manufacture movement in its snailed and circular-grained finish are all elements of a watch built to justify its price through material quality and movement provenance.
