WHAT WE LOVE:

The Cartier Tank Française is the design that bridged the Tank's historical elegance with the sports-bracelet aesthetic of the 1990s. Introduced in 1996, the Française replaced the Tank's traditional strap attachment with an integrated bracelet whose links flow directly from the case — the horizontal bands of the bracelet becoming a continuation of the case architecture rather than an accessory to it.

The small 2384 — at 20mm × 25mm — is the version of the Française that most precisely occupies the space between jewellery and watchmaking: small enough to sit on a finer wrist without overwhelming it, substantial enough to carry Cartier's architectural confidence. The silver dial with its black Roman numerals, the rail-track minute circle, the "secret signature" at the 10 o'clock Roman numeral visible on close examination, and the blued steel sword hands are each unchanged from Cartier's original Tank language. The blue cabochon-set rounded crown is the one conspicuous luxe detail on an otherwise restrained object — a sapphire or blue spinel setting that Cartier specifies as a marker of authenticity and craft across the Tank family.

WHAT'S INSIDE:

The Tank Française Small is powered by a Swiss quartz movement. The sapphire crystal is scratch-resistant, the case back is secured by four screws in the Cartier manner, and the integrated steel bracelet closes with Cartier's invisible deployant clasp hidden within the bracelet's outer links. Water resistance is 30 metres as standard for this case configuration.
