WHAT WE LOVE:
Bédat & Co was founded in Geneva in 1996 by Simone Bédat, with a design philosophy that prioritised the figure eight — the brand's emblem, a symbol of infinity and perfection — as the central motif of everything the brand produced. The N°8 is the purest expression of that idea: a round dial set within a cushion-shaped case, the "round in a cushion" configuration that references the shape of the eight through the relationship between the case's outer square profile and the circular dial within it.
The detail that most rewards close examination on the N°8 is the crown. Rather than projecting from the case at 3 o'clock in the conventional manner, the N°8's crown is recessed into the case band itself — integrated within the contour of the case side, protected by it, and effectively invisible in profile. It is a construction that requires considerably more engineering complexity than a standard crown attachment, and the decision to absorb that complexity in the name of visual purity reflects a genuinely considered design philosophy. The big date display at 3 o'clock — square-windowed, with large numerals readable at arm's length — is the one overtly legibility-focused detail on a watch that is otherwise entirely resolved as a design object.
WHATS INSIDE:
The N°8 is powered by the ETA 2896, a respected Swiss automatic movement with approximately 42-hour power reserve and 28,800 vibrations per hour.
