WHAT WE LOVE:
The emblematic Seiko "Alpinist" collection, born in 1959 specifically for Japanese mountain climbers, continues their legendary series with the GMT SPB379. It makes perfect sense for Seiko to add a GMT function to their exploration Alpinist, especially with their implementation of a rotating compass bezel, pairing the two time and direction-keeping functions seamlessly.
There is much to appreciate with this Alpinist, starting with the crowns. The 4 o'clock crown controls the inner rotating compass so as to quickly ensure precise movement, with the 3 o'clock crown having its own GMT level, an hours and minutes as well as a date level.
The sapphire glass is curved and coated with anti-reflective treatment, and the screw-down crown and case back ensures a precise 200m water resistance. A notable difference from the original Prospex Alpinist to this beefy version is the 24-hour engraved fixed bezel.
We love the dark blue colour-way with the strap, exemplifying a classy, somehow even understated physicality to pair so well to the meaty functions of the Alpinist.
If you're looking for a stylish watch that can withstand harsh conditions and guide you through them, this is the one for you!
WHAT'S INSIDE:
Running the Alpinist is the In-House 6R54 Automatic with manual wind, having a 3 day power reserve. This movement is loved and trusted in the watch community.
