WHAT WE LOVE:
IWC's journey into the realm of dive watches started with a request from the British Royal Navy in the 1940s. The Navy needed a watch that could withstand extreme conditions and be reliable in combat situations. The result was IWC's first military dive watch, the IWC Mark 11, introduced in 1948. Though it was not a dive watch in the strict sense, it was resistant to magnetic fields, shock, and considerably water-resistant.
IWC's first dedicated dive watch, however, wasn't released until 1967 with the debut of the Aquatimer. This first Aquatimer model (Ref. 812AD) had a depth rating of 200 meters, which was quite impressive for the time. This marked the beginning of IWC's history with dive watches.
In the 1980s, IWC developed the Ocean 2000 in collaboration with Porsche Design. This watch was made from titanium and was water-resistant up to 2000 meters, a groundbreaking achievement for the era. The Ocean 2000 is seen as a predecessor to the current Aquatimer 2000.
