This 1965 Heritage Diver's Watch, crafted as a special edition, reflects both innovation and reverence for the ocean. Its striking emerald-green gradation dial evokes the serene beauty of sunlight filtering through water, capturing the mesmerizing shimmer and fluid motion of the ocean’s surface as seen from beneath the waves.
This special edition is not only visually captivating, but also ethically forward thinking. The fabric strap is meticulously woven using the traditional Japanese Seichu technique, typically found in kimono obi belts. Made from nylon upcycled from discarded fishing nets, this strap symbolizes a deep respect for the ocean and a commitment to sustainable craftsmanship. Comfort is equally prioritized with a newly engineered clasp that allows six incremental adjustments of approximately 2.5mm each, offering up to 15mm in total flexibility. This ensures an ideal fit whether you're diving deep or navigating daily life.
With a stainless steel case measuring 40mm in diameter and 13mm in thickness, the SPB501J strikes a perfect balance between vintage inspiration and modern wearability. A curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the inner surface ensures legibility in all conditions, while Seiko’s LumiBrite treatment on the hands, indices, and bezel provides brilliant visibility in the dark. Its unidirectional rotating bezel, screw-down crown, and robust screw case back enhance its reliability under pressure, making this timepiece a true diver’s companion. The case back is proudly inscribed with “SPECIAL EDITION,” marking its unique place in the Prospex lineage.
WHAT'S INSIDE:
Powering the SPB501J is Seiko’s in-house Caliber 6R55, an automatic movement with manual winding capability. It offers an impressive power reserve of approximately 72 hours, and operates with a precision range of +25 to -15 seconds per day. With 24 jewels and a stop second hand function for precise time-setting, this movement is engineered for both performance and longevity.
