WHAT WE LOVE:
The Seiko 6139-8030 is a lesser-seen reference from the legendary 6139 chronograph family — and this example, with its clean white dial, offers a refreshing contrast to the more commonly found bold-coloured variants. The white dial, paired with the bold chronograph seconds hand and sub-register, gives this model a sleek, almost dressy aesthetic without sacrificing its 1970s sport watch DNA.
Like many vintage Seiko chronographs of the era, it wears beautifully thanks to its modest case size and ergonomic cushion shape. With the in-house Calibre 6139, this reference not only represents a golden era in Japanese horology but is also part of the wider story of the race to build the world’s first automatic chronograph.
WHAT’S INSIDE:
Powering the watch is the renowned Seiko Calibre 6139B — a fully integrated column wheel chronograph movement with automatic winding. Developed in 1969, it features a 30-minute chronograph counter, central chronograph seconds hand, and quick-set day/date display. It was one of the earliest automatic chronograph movements ever produced and remains a testament to Seiko’s mechanical innovation during the late 20th century.
