This model proudly carries forward the DNA of Seiko’s iconic 1968 diver’s watch, now enhanced with a modern GMT function and a striking blue dial inspired by ocean waves and the “wave mark” that has long symbolised trust and durability in Prospex design. The blue dial is a tribute to deep sea heritage and a reflection of Seiko’s unmatched journey through decades of innovation in dive watchmaking.
Every detail of the SPB509J has been designed for serious diving, daily wear, and everything in between. The case and bracelet are made from stainless steel with a super-hard coating, providing both resilience and a refined finish. The sapphire crystal, complete with an anti-reflective coating on the inner surface, ensures excellent visibility in harsh light and underwater. The screw down crown and screw case back offer professional-grade 300m water resistance, reinforcing the watch’s capability in demanding underwater environments.
Lumibrite on the hands and indexes ensures superior legibility in low light, while the redesigned clasp system offers practical innovation, featuring a 15mm adjustment range that can be modified in six 2.5mm increments. This thoughtful design allows the bracelet to adapt effortlessly to wrist size fluctuations caused by wetsuits or temperature changes, providing a secure and comfortable fit at all times. At the heart of the SPB509J beats the Seiko Calibre 6R54, a precise automatic movement built for reliability and long lasting performance. It operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour (6 beats per second) and offers an impressive 72-hour power reserve, allowing the watch to run for three days without needing to be worn or wound. The movement includes a GMT function with an independently adjustable 24-hour hand, enabling easy tracking of a second time zone without disrupting the main timekeeping.
