WHAT WE LOVE:
The Rolex Sea-Dweller 16600 occupies a special place in the brand’s dive watch history — it’s the last of the classic Sea-Dwellers before the line shifted to maxi cases and ceramic bezels. Produced from 1989 to 2009, this reference remains a favourite among collectors for its no-nonsense, overbuilt design and clean, date-without-cyclops dial layout.
This 2002 example features Luminova which is excellent for low-light conditions and diving. Rated to 1,220 metres (4,000 feet) of water resistance and fitted with a helium escape valve, the 16600 was built for saturation diving — but its slim case (for a Sea-Dweller) and balanced proportions make it surprisingly wearable as a daily watch.
WHAT'S INSIDE:
Inside ticks the Rolex Caliber. 3135, a chronometer-certified automatic movement with a 48-hour power reserve and Parachrom hairspring. It’s known for its reliability and ease of servicing, and was Rolex’s workhorse calibre for decades. In the 16600, it’s shielded by a thick caseback and a crystal that could withstand saturation dive depths — making this one of the most robust uses of the movement.
Comes with certificate of authenticity, watch serial points to production date in 2002 and first sold in 2003.
