WHAT WE LOVE:
The Omega Constellation Pie-Pan is among the most coveted vintage watches in the entire Omega catalogue — and the ref. 14393 from 1961 is one of the finest expressions of what made it special. The "Pie-Pan" describes the dial's distinctive three-dimensional architecture: the centre is elevated — raised above the chapter ring by a sloped stepped edge — so that the dial resembles, from the side, an upturned pie dish. It is a design decision that was purely aesthetic, made at a moment in Swiss watchmaking when craft and ambition were at their peak, and it transforms what would otherwise be a conventional round dial into something sculptural.
This example wears the Arabic numerals at 12, 6, and 9 o'clock — a configuration that gives it a slightly more instrument-like character than the pure baton-index variants, while retaining elegance. The dial features some minor spotting, very common for vintage watches of this period. The gold-capped case — 14ct gold over steel — carries the warmth of gold without the weight, and on a 34.5mm case that already sits lightly on the wrist. The crown winds smoothly and is branded Omega (modern replacement), along with a replacement Omega buckle.
The caseback is in fine shape and bears an engraving dating it to 1961. It places this specific example in a moment in time, and combined with its original papers, makes it one of the more documented 14393's likely to come to market.
