WHAT WE LOVE:
The Rolex Deepsea 116660 "James Cameron" is a remarkable tribute to deep-sea exploration, engineered to withstand the most extreme underwater conditions. Introduced in 2014 to commemorate filmmaker and explorer James Cameron’s historic solo dive to the Mariana Trench, this Deepsea Sea-Dweller stands out with its unique D-Blue dial, symbolizing the transition from light to the abyssal depths of the ocean.
Encased in an oversized 44mm Oystersteel case, the watch is built with Rolex’s patented Ringlock System, allowing it to withstand an extraordinary 3,900 meters (12,800 feet) of water resistance. A helium escape valve ensures the watch’s integrity during deep saturation dives, while the Triplock screw-down crown and thick 5.5mm domed sapphire crystal reinforce its extreme durability.
The standout D-Blue gradient dial, which fades from deep blue to pitch black, is complemented by Chromalight lume-filled hands and hour markers, offering long-lasting luminescence for optimal underwater readability. The unidirectional Cerachrom ceramic bezel, with platinum-coated numerals and a 60-minute scale, allows precise dive timing. Completing the timepiece is the Oyster bracelet, fitted with the Glidelock and Fliplock extension systems, allowing seamless adjustments over wetsuits or for enhanced comfort.
WHAT'S INSIDE:
Powering the Deepsea 116660 is Rolex’s in-house Caliber 3135 automatic movement, a Superlative Chronometer-certified caliber known for its precision, durability, and 48-hour power reserve. The movement features Rolex’s Parachrom hairspring, ensuring resistance to shocks and magnetic fields.
