WHAT WE LOVE:
The 196.0073 is one of those watches that almost no one knows to look for — and that is precisely why it rewards finding. Part of the Seamaster range, it distinguishes itself immediately by its size: at approximately 37mm excluding the crown, it is a considerably larger watch than the standard Seamaster references of the same era, earning it the "oversize" designation.
Omega's response during the quartz crisis was to produce quartz movements of genuine quality and to house them in cases that maintained the visual and physical presence of the brand's mechanical tradition. The 196.0073 is a direct product of that moment: a Swiss quartz watch built to Omega's standards, in a stainless steel TV style case that wears with the weight and solidity of a mechanical piece.
The silver dial is clean, metallic, and entirely of its era — applied baton hour markers, thing hands, and a date window at 3 o'clock that reads with the no-nonsense clarity that 1970s Omega did better than almost anyone. Fitted to an Omega bracelet as well this one is ready for many years to come.
WHAT'S INSIDE:
The 196.0073 is powered by the Omega Calibre 1315 — a quartz movement produced by Omega during the transition period of the late 1970s that combines the accuracy of quartz technology with the construction standards of a brand still committed to in-house movement quality.
