WHAT WE LOVE:
The Glashütte Original Sixties 25th Anniversary Edition is one of the rarest modern timepieces ever produced by the Saxon manufacture — a commemorative release limited to just 25 pieces worldwide, created in 2015 to honour the 25th anniversary of German reunification. Quietly released and never officially catalogued, it stands apart from later Sixties Annual Editions, not only for its extreme rarity but also for its deep cultural resonance.
The watch pays tribute to the rebirth of fine watchmaking in Glashütte following the fall of the Berlin Wall, with Glashütte Original emerging from its East German roots to become a symbol of modern German craftsmanship. The dégradé black-to-grey sunburst dial is subtle and refined, featuring 1960s-style numerals, a textured radial finish, and luminous baton hands — details that reinforce both the vintage aesthetic and the commemorative intent.
Housed in a 39mm polished stainless steel case with a sapphire display back engraved with the individual number, this watch combines timeless elegance with historical significance — making it a grail-level piece for collectors of German horology.
WHAT'S INSIDE:
Powering this special edition is the Glashütte Original Caliber 39-52, an in-house automatic movement with a 40-hour power reserve, swan-neck regulator, and a skeletonised rotor adorned with the brand’s signature double-G logo. It features all the hallmarks of traditional Glashütte finishing, including the three-quarter plate, Glashütte stripes, and heat-blued screws — visible through the sapphire caseback.
