We have been stocking a wide range of hand forged Japanese knives for some time now and our selection is always changing. And lately some of our customers have been asking about the process to make them, and also the best way to maintain these beautiful items, to keep them sharp and working as they should.
So this week we went out to Stackhouse in Wainuiomata (half an hour out of Wellington) for a knife workshop to find out more about how these knives are made and how to best care for them.
We offer free knife sharpening for any knives purchased at FIVE:45.
We have included a short demonstration video and some photographs below for you to get a feel for what we experienced. If you want to know more details we are happy to answer any of your questions.
Stackhouse did this workshop as a one off for FIVE:45, but they also run regular workshops, classes and private tutoring in Damascus steel, knife making and blacksmithing.
