WHAT WE LOVE:
The Tudor Pelagos FXD GMT is one of the most purposeful tool watches to come out of Geneva in recent years — and the story behind it makes it all the more compelling. Developed in collaboration with the Aéronautique Navale, the aviation arm of the French Navy, this is a watch that was genuinely commissioned for military service before finding its way to civilian wrists.
The FXD designation refers to the fixed strap bars machined directly into the 42mm grade 5 titanium case — a design choice born from the practical need to prevent snagging on cockpit equipment.
The dial matte black with beige printed hour markers prioritise legibility over decoration. The standout element is the bright orange 24-hour GMT hand, which completes a full rotation every 24 hours and tracks Zulu time (UTC/GMT), the universal standard used in aviation. Paired with the bidirectional rotating bezel featuring a black ceramic 24-hour insert, the watch can track up to three time zones simultaneously.
WHAT’S INSIDE:
Powering the Pelagos FXD GMT is Tudor's Manufacture Calibre MT5652-U — an in-house automatic movement that holds both COSC chronometer and METAS Master Chronometer certifications. The METAS standard is among the most demanding in watchmaking, covering precision across multiple positions and temperatures, resistance to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss, water resistance verification, and power reserve confirmation.
The movement features a bidirectional winding rotor system, an integrated GMT function with an independent 24-hour hand, and a stated power reserve of approximately 65 hours. It is a serious calibre in every respect — accurate, robust, and entirely manufactured by Tudor. This example has Tudor warranty until 2030.
