WHAT WE LOVE:
The Cabot Watch Company has been supplying dive watches to the British military since 1972 — and the SF300 QS120-DD is a watch in current military service.
The original MOD specification for this watch dates to 1987, signed by the Officer Commanding Royal Marines. The document instructed CWC to produce a diver's watch capable of meeting the operational requirements of Britain's most demanding maritime special forces: the Special Boat Service. More than thirty-five years later, the SF300 QS120-DD is still being issued to SBS operatives, Royal Marines, Royal Navy divers, and other specialist units. It carries a NATO Stock Number — 0555/6645-99 7995443 — and the specification it was built to has not changed, because it has never needed to.
The watch itself is exactly what that history demands. The 41mm black PVD case is matte throughout, designed to eliminate any reflection that might betray a diver's position. The 120-click unidirectional bezel — tighter and more precise than the typical 60-click consumer standard — provides quarter-minute elapsed time increments for accurate dive planning, with no possibility of accidental rotation adding time to a decompression calculation. Fixed steel strap bars rather than spring bars mean there is nothing to fail, nothing to depress under pressure, and nothing to lose at depth. The SuperLuminova markings charge rapidly and hold their glow through an extended underwater operation. The day/date display adds practical daily utility without compromising the dive-first architecture.
WHAT’S INSIDE:
The SF300 QS120-DD is powered by the Ronda 517 — a Swiss-made quartz movement that is the standard specification for CWC's issue dive watches, chosen for its reliability, accuracy, and resistance to the shocks and pressure variations of active diving use. The movement includes a battery life indicator function, signalling the need for replacement well in advance of the watch stopping — a practical safety feature for any watch used in a diving context where unexpected failure is not an option.
