WHAT WE LOVE:
Ulysse Nardin is the most historically consequential of the Le Locle watch houses in the field of marine chronometry, the company that supplied navigation chronometers to the world's navies for over a century before pivoting to wristwatches of conspicuous technical ambition. The Maxi Marine Diver Chronograph is where those two traditions converge: a 200-metre certified diving chronograph with a rubber-coated unidirectional rotating bezel, raised bold applied markers, and a fully integrated stopwatch function in a 43mm case.
The dial architecture in this reference is among the most boldly composed in the sport-diver chronograph category. The silver three-level dial ground carries blue arrow-tipped chronograph sub-registers at 9 and 3 o'clock, a red central chronograph hand, luminous Arabic numeral indices in raised relief on the sub-registers, and a date window at 6 that doubles as the seconds counter housing. The blue rubber-coated rotating bezel, the titanium-accented pushers, and the screw-down crown protected by the rounded case shoulders are all visible in the photograph, elements of a design that is simultaneously technical and visually dramatic.
