WHAT WE LOVE:
The Seiko Prospex 1970 Heritage Diver's Black Series Limited Edition, SLA061J, brings the legendary Captain Willard design into a distinctly modern and commanding form, limited to just 1,000 pieces. Inspired by the celebrated 1970 Seiko 6105, famously worn by Martin Sheen as Captain Willard in 'Apocalypse Now', and by explorer Naomi Uemura, its rounded black coated stainless steel case features the signature crown position at 4 o'clock and integrated crown guards, creating an unmistakable silhouette with a bold, purposeful presence.
The textured black dial evokes the ripples of an ocean floor, complemented by cream coloured LumiBrite filled hands and applied indexes, vivid orange accents and an orange seconds hand. A black unidirectional rotating bezel with a 60 minute scale frames the dial, while the curved sapphire crystal features anti reflective coating on its inner surface. Water resistant to 200m / 660ft diver's, the watch features a screw down crown, screw case back and LumiBrite on the hands, indexes and bezel. The case back is engraved with "LIMITED EDITION" and an individual serial number.
Measuring 44mm in diameter, the watch is paired with a black coated stainless steel bracelet featuring a three fold clasp with secure lock, push button release and extender. An additional black silicone strap is included, offering a versatile alternative for diving and everyday wear.
WHAT'S INSIDE:
At its heart is Seiko's Caliber 8L35, an automatic movement with manual winding, developed specifically for diver's watches by the watchmakers at the Shizukuishi Watch Studio in northern Japan. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, or 8 beats per second, it offers a power reserve of approximately 50 hours and contains 26 jewels. The movement includes a stop second hand function and date display, with a stated precision of +15 to -10 seconds per day.
