The "TV Dial" is the nickname that vintage Seiko collectors apply to the rectangular-dialled, television-screen-shaped automatic watches that Seiko produced across the early 1970s — and the angular case architecture that earned it is now one of the most visually distinctive and immediately recognisable case shapes in the vintage Japanese watch world. The 2205-3090's case is not merely rectangular; it is octagonal at the corners, with dramatic chamfering that catches light across multiple planes, and the transition from the top surface to the bevelled sides creates geometric complexity.

The grey-on-grey dial composition — a matte grey textured dial ground, silver-tone baton markers, silver-tone sword hands — is deliberately restrained, and the restraint is the point. This is a watch whose visual interest comes from the case rather than the dial, and the dial knows this: its job is to be legible and to frame the time clearly, and it does both with no superfluous detail.
