Oris has been making pilot's watches since 1938, and the Big Crown Pointer Date is the reference that connects the modern brand most directly to that heritage. The oversized crown — designed originally to allow operation with gloved hands in an open cockpit.

The Pointer Date is the complication that has defined this reference since it was first introduced: a red central pointer hand that sweeps around the outer date scale on the chapter ring rather than driving a conventional date window. It was Oris's answer to the practical problem of date displays in aviation watches — a central pointer is readable at any angle, without requiring the wearer to tilt the watch or squint at a magnified window.

The 36mm case with its rose gold plated top ring is the most elegant configuration in the Pointer Date range. The silver guilloché dial with its Arabic numerals and index markers catches light differently under the domed plexiglass crystal than it would under flat sapphire, giving it a gently vintage quality that suits the watch's heritage perfectly. The see-through screwed mineral glass caseback reveals Oris's trademark red rotor — one of the most recognisable movement details in the industry, and a red worth turning the watch over to see.
