WHAT WE LOVE:

On July 21st 1969, Neil Armstrong stepped onto the lunar surface wearing an Omega Speedmaster Professional on his wrist. The movement inside was the Calibre 321 — but the movement that accompanied every subsequent Apollo mission, that was qualified by NASA after rigorous testing in 1965, and that continued as the Moonwatch's heart until 2021 when Omega reintroduced the 321, was the Calibre 861 and its rhodium-plated successor, the Calibre 1861. The 311.30.42.30.01.005 with its 1861 movement is the last generation of the pre-Master Chronometer Moonwatch — and given that the 3861 Co-Axial movement that replaced it in 2021 is genuinely different in character, this reference has immediate and deserved collectability.

The "Big Box" configuration is the Speedmaster Professional as Omega always believed it should be presented. WHAT'S INSIDE:

The 311.30.42.30.01.005 is powered by the Omega Calibre 1861 — an 18-jewel manual-wind chronograph movement with column wheel, 21,600 vibrations per hour, and 48-hour power reserve. The 1861 is the rhodium-plated version of the 861, and the movement that accompanied the Speedmaster through its entire career as the watch worn on the Moon. The hesalite crystal, the solid case back, the black aluminium tachymeter bezel, and the asymmetric 42mm case are all correct to the Moonwatch's original NASA-qualified specification.
