WHAT WE LOVE:

Magrette is New Zealand's most established watch brand — producing Swiss-movement tool watches with a specific and consistent design language that references 1960s Italian sports watches and the muscular, purposeful aesthetics of early professional dive instruments. The Leoncino — "little lion" in Italian — is the watch that most clearly expresses that lineage.

The sandwich dial construction — where a top plate with cutout markers sits over a fully lumed substrate beneath, creating a three-dimensional lume profile that reads as depth rather than surface application — gives the dial superior luminescence performance and a textural quality visible in direct light. The red-tipped seconds hand is the single colour accent in an otherwise all-black and silver composition, and the "MAGRETTE" text engraved into the brushed rehaut around the dial's inner circumference is visible in light. The double-domed sapphire crystal and 200-metre water resistance through a signed screw-down crown make this a serious wearer; the H-link bracelet with its contrasting brushed outer links and polished centres, quick-release mechanism, and signed butterfly clasp make it an elegant one.
