WHAT WE LOVE:
The Longines HydroConquest has been the brand's serious sport dive watch since 2003, and the current generation, updated in 2022 with a revised dial layout and further refined for 2026, is the most technically accomplished version the collection has produced. The L888 calibre family, which powers this reference, is Longines' own-developed answer to the ETA 2892 standard: a movement that incorporates a monocrystalline silicon balance spring for improved magnetic resistance and long-term rate stability, achieving COSC chronometer certification in its specification tier, with 72 hours of power reserve that leaves almost all comparable sport watches well behind.
The blue-on-blue configuration, polished lacquered blue dial against a blue ceramic unidirectional bezel, is the most coherent colour expression in the HydroConquest's current range. The ceramic bezel insert is scratch-resistant and colour-stable in a way that aluminium inserts are not, and the deep blue against the lacquered dial creates a cohesive tonal statement that is simultaneously refined and unmistakably purposeful. The scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both surfaces, the screw-in crown, and 300-metre water resistance confirm the technical specification. At 42mm on the full-width steel bracelet with its micro-adjustment folding clasp, this reads as the professional diver at exactly the right scale.
